More fake Jools!

I'm batting zero with Jewelry these days =(

At the very least, you get a decent jolt of adrenaline when you first see them come out of the ground.

Silver Plated Broach with false sapphire

Scalloped Heart Pendant with false diamond

Pretty soon I'll have enough fake jewelry to make a fake crown jewels!

Great Seal Buttons

This was found right along with the Royal Navy Button and the CW Button.  My working theory is that someone dropped their sewing box and forgot a few.  Either that or that particular site had a lot of people on it with loose buttons.  Either way, I'm not going to complain.

I have it on authority from a fellow at militaryuniforms.com that this is a WW I era button.

Civil War General Service Uniform Button

This button was dug not too terribly for from my Revolutionary War button.  In fact, nearly every decent button I've found has come from one site.  This is a Federal General Service Uniform Button used during the Civil War.  The back mark says * EXTRA * QUALITY

Shootin' up the Ritz

These were found just next to a site that once had a three story hotel on it.  Looking at the front of the hotel, these were just to the right of it.  They are 45-70 Morse Patent Cartridges made at the now closed Frankford Arsenal.  This particular variety was only made in 1886 and 1887.  My 8 (2 not pictured) were made in 1886.

Here are some pictures I found posted on the International Ammunition Assoc. forums:

Fake Treasure!

The nerve!

I found this little ring about 6 feet from the Royal Navy Button.  Sadly, it was proved to be fake =(

But it could have been real!

Storage

I end up with a lot of stuff that I wouldn't exactly call the cream of the crop, but I don't want to get rid of.  My Dad gave me a great solution =)

Couple these with the sweet treasure chest my wife made for me and I'm in the organizing business for a long time to come!

1774-1787 Royal Navy Captain/Commander Button

This was my oldest find for nearly three whole days!  I found it in the Nanjemoy area under around 5" of soft topsoil.  The area had been built on since the late 1690s and I've found things there from the late 1700s on up to modern pull tabs.

Picture!

1774-1787 Royal Navy Captain/Commander Button

In 1774, a fouled Anchor replaced the Rose design on British Navel Buttons and continued until 1787 when a wreath was added. In 1812, a crown was added and variations are still used today.

1702-1714 Queen Anne lead cloth seal

I found this lead cloth seal in the Bel Alton area where a chunk of land was graded down to clay to make for a new road.  It was under about 1/2" of clay, but had the site been ungraded, it would have been over 12" underground and far out of range for my little Bounty Hunter Tracker IV.

First, the pictures!

Crowned Lion atop the Crown.  The '3' is the Alnage or tax.  It would have been 3 pence
This seal would have had two more parts (non-decorative).  See below for explanation.

Oueen Anne Bust facing left.  The inscription would read MAG BRI REGINA

Lets see where this goes!

I am insanely good at thinking of great ideas and not following through.  My current great idea is a blog about my metal detecting finds.  I aim to post what finds I find, and along with my pictures of said finds, explain the history behind the item (if I can).

We'll see how far I get!
